Just what I needed
I bought the large freestanding gate earlier this summer in order to block off a large opening between my kitchen and family room. It's easy to step over and to move out of the way. My puppy has learned to stay behind the gate and doesn't even attempt to go over it even though he could. I was a bit disappointed to see the current price on Amazon. I bought it from Amazon for around 99 dollars. It looks as though the price has gone up quite a bit. I think this must be a popular item right now with pet owners. I have seen it at Coscto online recently for 89! Deal or no deal this is the gate to get.

Great Looking Gate! This is the Taller version.
Pros:-- Great looking gate compliments our hardwoods much more so than a white plastic gate (ugh).-- The HL and HS are almost 8" taller than the other Richell gates. The extra height is definitely needed if your dog(s) is larger than a tea-cup breed. The Freestanding design is fairly sturdy although I would be concerned if it could really hold up against very large dogs.Cons:-- Definitely expensive. But worth it if looks are important and you forsee using it for a long period of time.-- The gate folds nice and slim - but the freestanding legs stick out from the unit making it wider than I had hoped. But still easy to carry.-- Not easy to adjust the width on the fly because there are four screws that secure the two pieces of gate together.-- I would suggest coating the unit with a coat or two of polyurethane so that your dogs will not scratch the finish on top with their nails if they jump up or "hang" over the top of the gate.

Free-Standing Dog Gate
I am quite pleased with the dog gate. It's very attractive. It looks much more like a piece of furniture than a typical dog gate. My only disappointment with the product is that it is rather heavy, making it somewhat difficult to move easily, which is something we need to do whenever we open the front door. (Our gate is intended to block our dog from entering the foyer.) I think I'll add felt strips over the rubber pieces on the feet to make it slide more easily.I am less satisfied with the supplier. Delivery took a month rather than a week, and there was no notification of the delay from the supplier. However, it did eventually arrive, and it was not damaged. I will probably try to avoid this supplier for any other products, if I can, although I will use them if they are the only source of a product I want.

Nice Product but. . .
This is a beautiful gate and does what we need to corral the Basset Hounds but for the price - couldn't they have made a latch or quick release of some sort?! We put it up over night and while we're at work but in the evening I have to use a screwdriver to let us all in the TV room!

Expensive, but worth it
This was the only barrier that fit in a 47" wide opening, looked good, and is sturdy enough to withstand a jumping poodle puppy. If a pressure mounted gate won't work for you, or you don't want to install hardware in an opening, this is the gate for you.

Doggie Gate Review - 27" height
I purchased this gate because of it's height and adjustability. It's perfect for my needs. It has kept my Jack Russell puppy contained in the kitchen and now prevents her from climbing the steps. I have found that the style of the gate is perfect for wrapping around my bottom step too. If you have a smart dog, you had better lock the sides because they'll quickly learn that one side of the gate is moveable and break out!

High End Quality at a Great Price
I was pleasantly surprised to find this on Amazon. I had seen these in high-end retailers for $150 and more, plus shipping. On Amazon, it's even set up as Prime!As for the gate itself, it's perfect. We have a 12" high, 13 lb. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and the height is perfect for us. It's high enough to keep her in, and low enough to let us walk over it without a problem. The wood matches our house(a coincidence for us perhaps), but it's nicely put together and the wood is very high-end looking. The freestanding part of it works very well -- it's very secure and solid.

Finally a pet gate that is 'good looking' and practical!
These gates are great for keeping our dogs out of the rooms we don't want them in. The gates are attractive and can be easily set up to fit in the doorway or outside of the doorway so one can still open and close the door. They have a handsome furniture finish consequently their appearance is much more pleasing to look at as compared to the typical wire or plastic gates available. They don't leave marks on the door frames as they simply set in place. Also, I price compared and this is the lowest price I could find for both the small and the large gates.Coincidentally, the gates are an added safety feature when our toddler grandson spends time with us.

This was almost the perfect gate.
This gate is attractive, easy to assemble, very portable and would be perfect if my puppy weren't quite so athletic. At 7 pounds, my "pocket puggle" figured out how to jump over this gate within 3 days. I would still recommend it for anyone with old dogs or smaller dogs than mine. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find one that is just a few inches taller.

Best gate I've ever owned
I ordered this gate and just received it today. I cannot begin to say how much I love it. It was simple to install and it is very solid.I have two chihuahuas, one of which is a climber so I needed a gate that she couldn't climb. The problem I found with most gates is that the bars are too far apart so she could either squeeze through or get her little head stuck. This gate is perfect because the bars are very close together.I have already recommended this gate to several people and will continue to do so!!

I love this gate!
My husband and I bought 2 of these gates for our new puppy and I love them!! I relish not having to take down a gate or try to step over them (which isn't fun for someone short ;). And this gate is stylish (is that possible? ;). I would recommend this gate to anyone. Yes, it's pricey (I had my doubts), but after a couple of weeks, I love it!!!! Buy it! You can't go wrong!

Very nice, but no match for a determined puppy
Overall this is a very nice gate. It looks great, is well built, and is easy to install. And while I like the look of the wood portion of the gate, it unfortunately is a bad idea for puppies or dogs of any age that like to chew or are determined to get out. Within three weeks my 4 month old Beagle had chewed and broke his way through it. So I had to replace it with a gate made solely of metal.
